Dedication

This Directory is dedicated to all who work for the preservation and propagation of orthodox Anglicanism-and especially to those who strive for unity and harmony within the movement.

Preface - Promoting Unity among the Faithful

This 2007-2008 Directory of Traditional Anglican and Episcopal Parishes is the ninth in a series that began in 1988. It lists US and Canadian parishes in the Anglican tradition that affirm the historic Biblical Christian gender roles in both priesthood and marriage.

Many of these parishes are in the Continuing Anglican movement known as the Continuum, that is, those jurisdictions deriving from the 1977 St. Louis Congress called by the Fellowship of Concerned Churchmen (FCC) in response to the 1976 Episcopal General Convention's decision to ordain women to the priesthood and promulgate a new Book of Common Prayer.

Although the Anglican Church of North America that was organized after the St. Louis conference devolved into numerous separate jurisdictions, the Continuum has maintained a unity in that its constituents stand by the Affirmation of St. Louis and its prescription of the US 1928 and Canadian 1962 Prayer Books as standards of faith and practice.

Some orthodox churchmen, many of whom attended the St. Louis Congress, remained in the Episcopal Church (TEC) to form what is now Forward-in-Faith/North America (FiFNA), presently in communion with three Continuum jurisdictions: The Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC), parent of both the Anglican Church in America (ACA) and the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada (ACCC); the Anglican Province of America (APA) and the Diocese of the Holy Cross (DHC). FiFNA has endorsed the Affirmation of St. Louis and has taken on "associated" parishes from jurisdictions beyond those with which it is in communion.

Four Continuum jurisdictions beyond this FiFNA/TAC/APA/DHC combine, the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC), the Anglican Province of Christ the King (APCK), the United Episcopal Church of North America (UECNA), and the Holy Catholic Church-Anglican Rite (HCC-AR) are in communion with each other.

The FCC Board of directors (listed Below) includes unofficial representatives of both these groupings, from TEC/FiFNA, ACA, ACCC, and APA on one hand and from ACC and APCK on the other. It also has members from two additional groups, the Episcopal Missionary Church (EMC) and the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA), a missionary diocese of the Anglican Province of Nigeria.

One organization formed before the St. Louis Congress, the Reformed Episcopal Church (REC) of 1873 - and two formed afterwards - the US portion of the Anglican Mission in the Americas (AMiA) of the Anglican Province of Rwanda and the Charismatic Episcopal Church (CEC) and its derivatives - also have their parishes listed herein. These and certain independent and smaller groups have been included in that they have deemed to have generally met our criteria. (The REC, incidentally, is in communion with the APA, and the AMiA has some of its parishes "associated" with FiFNA).

The FCC is encouraged by the numerous efforts around the world seeking the unified orthodox Anglican witness that it was formed to pursue and toward which it has worked for 35 years, often amidst a sea of conflicts. We hope that this Directory will promote more inter-jurisdictional worship, personal and organizational communication, and ongoing healing in the Body of Christ, which is His Church, not ours.
